Our Story

My grandad Bill got me into all this. From when I was about seven he'd take me camping every summer, just the two of us. He had this old green canvas bag, army surplus I think, older than my dad. Everything had its place in it and he knew where every single thing was without looking. Drove my nan mad how attached he was to it.

We took it everywhere. It got rained on, sat in mud, chucked in the back of the Land Rover on roads that rattled your teeth. Never let me down once. It was just always there, like he was.

He passed a couple of years back. The bag ended up with me. The canvas had gone thin in places and one of the buckles was held on with a bit of wire, but I wasn't binning it. Figured I'd just buy a new one like it.

Turns out you can't. It's all thin nylon and plasticky zips now, the sort of bag that's coming apart by the second trip. Nothing built to actually keep.

So I had one made properly. Took longer than I'd like to admit to get it right.

That's all HARDWILD is, really. One proper bag for the boot, the weather and the mess of a trip away. Something you hang onto for years and pass on, the way Bill's got passed to me.

What We Believe

We're not into hype. We'd rather use heavy canvas that lasts than thin stuff that photographs well. One bag that actually does the job beats five that nearly do. If the gear's any good, it doesn't need us shouting about it.

Built To Pass Down

We've overbuilt it on purpose. Proper 900D canvas, sealed seams, a waterproof base, and we stand behind it for 12 months. Look after it and it'll see out trip after trip, probably the car too.
